There’s still plenty of good paddling left in 2011, but this is the time of year when people start looking ahead to the 2012 season. To accommodate that casting forward, canoe and kayak manufacturers are already making promises about what they’ll have available in the spring. (Pouring over these catalogs is a little like looking at seed catalogs and a lot like boat porn.)
Canada’s Nova Craft Canoe will be offering the Trapper, a handy single-paddler canoe with a 12’ x 34’ x 13’ hull with three material options (fiberglass, Kevlar and Royalex Lite). Built to the specifications of a 1952 wood-and-canvas Chestnut Canoe, the Trapper should be available in the spring, but Nova Craft has yet to include the canoe in its online catalog. Another version, the Teddy, comes with two seats so you can take a youngster with you.
